First European health care conference on sustainable products and practices in Vienna a huge success.

More than 300 health care leaders from 28 countries met from 6-8 October 2004 in Vienna at CleanMed Europe. Participants represented a wide range of constituencies from the health care sector: hospitals staff and operators, companies and various organisations like the International Council of Nurses, the World Health Organization, the Health Promoting Hospitals Network, the European Environmental Agency and UNIDO.

More than 40 speakers contributed to a high-level conference program and demonstated the broad variety of topics and activities at ecologically oriented healthcare facilities.

At the poster exhibition more than 40 projects were presented, showing high commitment and quality of work. Many of them demonstrated that environmental benefits often come hand in hand with economic ones. An international jury honoured five of them with the "Best Practice Award".

Health Care Leaders issue historic Vienna Declaration on Sustainable Healthcare

During the congress many participants signed the "Vienna Declaration of Environmental Standards for Healthcare Facilites". The declaration calls for binding environmental standards and specifies concrete goals to be achieved.
